Hyderabad: As part of its ongoing special drive, the
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) removed 896 encroachments across the city on Saturday. The operation covered all six zones and was carried out in coordination with traffic and law enforcement authorities.
Officials said the civic body had already conducted similar operations on April 4 and 18.
With the latest drive, the total number of encroachments cleared in April has reached 2,337.
According to the GHMC, of the 896 encroachments removed on Saturday, 440 were permanent structures and 456 were temporary. The areas covered included stretches in the Shamshabad, Charminar, Rajendranagar, Golconda, Khairatabad and Secunderabad zones, with a significant number of removals recorded in Begum Bazar and the surrounding area.
The drive focused on clearing pavements and road edges to ease pedestrian and vehicle movement. Activities were carried out on a zone-by-zone basis, with each zone identifying key road stretches and mobilising staff from various departments.
Multiple GHMC departments, including the vigilance, engineering and sanitation wings, worked together during the operation. GHMC said such drives will continue in the coming weeks.
