Forest officials say no tigers in Narsapur forest

HYDERABAD: Villages near Narsapur forest range in Medak district have been panic-stricken ever since a half-eaten carcass of a cow was found in the area. Though it was initially suspected to be a tiger kill, forest officials, who have been patrolling the area to spot pug marks, ruled out the presence of a tiger.
“We inspected the area, but couldn’t find any evidence to prove that it was a tiger kill.There are 46 leopards, but presence of tigers has not been documented so far,” said district forest officer Sridhar Rao.
“A local spotted a wild cat in the forest and since then all villagers have been living in panic. The fear only increased after a cow carcass was found. We carry sticks when venturing out,” said A Ballaya, a Narsapur local.
