Cops being misused to intimidate BRS workers: Harish

Hyderabad: Former minister T Harish Rao on Saturday alleged that the Congress govt misused police machinery to intimidate opposition workers and manipulate elections.Speaking to reporters after meeting 13 BRS workers, who were remanded in judicial custody at the Sangareddy district jail, in what he termed as false and politically motivated cases, he expressed outrage over incidents of intimidation and violence.
These included attacks on woman councillors and members of SC and ST communities, and the filing of Atrocities Act cases against BRS workers. Harish Rao said serious charges such as attempt to murder were booked without medical reports, and accused police of blindly shielding ruling party leaders while targeting BRS activists.He also questioned why vehicles involved in violations were not seized and why FIRs were not registered despite video evidence being submitted. He pointed to incidents of arson against BRS workers' vehicles and said the promise that the "khaki rule book is equal for all" was reduced to a slogan, with law enforcement acting selectively in favour of the ruling party.He said that while BJP leaders who abused or manhandled police personnel were not arrested, BRS workers were booked and jailed for merely questioning illegal actions. He cited incidents in Kyathanpally, Amangal and Jangaon, alleging that councillors were intimidated and women from Dalit communities were attacked in full view of officials, yet no action was taken against the perpetrators.Harish Rao said BRS would raise these issues in the upcoming assembly session and will not allow govt to trample upon democratic rights. He asserted that the party would continue to fight against political vendetta, misuse of police power, and denial of rightful support to farmers.
