Hyderabad: A 55-year-old Congress leader from Khammam died in a road accident at Suryapet on Wednesday. The mishap occurred while the victim was travelling from Khammam to Hyderabad.The deceased, Mohammed Javeed, was ex-president of city Congress, Khammam. The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon while Javeed was en route to Hyderabad after attending a party event in Khammam.According to Suryapet Rural CI G Rajasekhar, at the time of the accident, Javeed was alone in the Tata Harrier SUV. At Balemla village near Suryapet, Javeed lost control of the vehicle and hit the divider. "After hitting the divider, the SUV veered off the road, flipped twice and landed in the open space adjacent to the road. All the air bags were deployed, but the victim fell out of the vehicle through the broken sunroof. He died on the spot with severe injuries," the inspector said.Police suspect that the SUV was travelling at a high speed and the victim might have either dozed off or he might have hit the divider while trying to avoid another vehicle. A case was registered under Section 106(1) (causing death due to negligence) of the BNS. The body was shifted for postmortem. Several senior Congress leaders, including deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy expressed shock and grief over Mohammed Javeed's death and extended condolences to his family.
