HYDERABAD: Moinabad police said advocate G Swapna's brother, G Raju, had attempted to kill her twice earlier and tried to stage the attempts as road accidents. Police said they learnt of the development during the custodial interrogation of Raju and three others, and arrested a local man for providing Swapna's location details to the other accused during the attempts.
Swapna was murdered on February 4 at Kethireddypally near Moinabad. Before her murder, she filed two separate road accident complaints with Chevella and Moinabad police in Nov 2025 and Jan 2026, alleging that unidentified accused rammed her two-wheeler with a car and a bulldozer respectively. During the investigation, she alleged that her brother could be behind both incidents.

Police said Swapna escaped with injuries in both incidents. While probing the road accident cases, police verified Raju's mobile phone location and call data records to check whether he was following her or speaking to any suspects who might have tracked her movements.
"Raju's mobile phone location or call data analysis did not indicate that he was involved in the accidents. However, after the murder we examined the phone location details of the co-accused in the murder case and it became evident that one of them, V Veeresh, followed Swapna and was in the same areas where she was at the time of both the accidents," Chevella DCP Yogesh Goutham said.
Veeresh confessed that he acted on the instructions of Raju and another co-accused in the murder, E Sandeep, police said. According to police, Raju wanted to take possession of four acres of family land in Kethireddypally, currently in the name of his sister Swapna, and requested Sandeep from Moinabad to help him eliminate her.
Police said Raju promised half an acre of land to Sandeep and some money to Veeresh. As per the plan, Raju used WhatsApp calls to speak to Sandeep and Veeresh and immediately deleted the call logs.
Police said that, as per Sandeep's instructions, Veeresh rented a car belonging to his friend from Shankarpally mandal for 10,000 in November 2025 and rammed Swapna's scooter at Mudimyal Gate at 10.10am on Nov 6, 2025. "There were no CCTV cameras around the accident spot for about two kilometres as it is a reserve forest area. The accused deliberately chose the spot," police said.
For the second attempt on the night of Jan 11, police said Veeresh targeted Swapna near Pavani Resort between Moinabad and Kethireddypally. Police said Veeresh hid a bulldozer borrowed from his cousin in a nearby mango grove for two days and took it out at around 7pm on January 11 when Swapna was passing by the resort. He did not switch on the bulldozer's lights to avoid being captured on the resort's CCTV cameras, police said, adding that as the second failed attempt, Veeresh again hid the bulldozer in the grove for a day and returned it to his cousin at night.
"The accused confessed to their involvement in both previous attempted murder offences. Based on their confession, we arrested Mangali Sekhar from Kethireddypally, who helped the accused by providing Swapna's location details during the two failed attempts," the DCP said.
Raju, along with Sandeep, Veeresh and Shiva, are accused in the murder case, police said. In the two attempted murder cases, Raju, Sandeep, Veeresh and Sekhar will be shown as accused. All the accused are currently in judicial remand.
