NEW DELHI: Veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu has been booked for allegedly assaulting a journalist at his residence in Jalpalli, Rangareddy district, on the evening of December 10, 2024.
The altercation reportedly occurred around 7.50 pm while media personnel were covering an ongoing dispute between Mohan Babu and his son, actor Manchu Manoj.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the police, the complaint was registered at 10.55 pm the same night. Sub-Inspector B. Dayakar Reddy of Pahadishareef Police Station recorded the journalist's statement.
The journalist, along with other reporters, had arrived at Mohan Babu’s residence earlier in the evening to report on the family rift, which has been drawing considerable media attention.
At around 8.05 pm, actor Manchu Manoj reportedly invited the journalists inside to cover the situation as tensions between him and his father escalated.
However, events allegedly took a violent turn. According to the complainant, Mohan Babu confronted the journalist aggressively.
It is alleged that the actor forcibly seized the journalist’s microphone and phone used offensive language, and physically assaulted him with the microphone, which was said to have a steel pipe and metal logo.
The attack allegedly left the journalist with a serious head injury, resulting in heavy bleeding.
The journalist claimed that the attack was unprovoked and requested the police to take appropriate legal action against Mohan Babu.
He was immediately taken to Trident Hospital in Shamshabad, where he received medical treatment for his injuries.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered, and the investigation is being led by Sub-Inspector of Police (SIP) V. Laxmaiah.
