Hyderabad: A 32-year-old software engineer died by suicide at his residence in Bhavani Colony under Rajendranagar police station limits on Saturday. The deceased was identified as P Kumara Swamy Reddy.
The incident came to light on Sunday when the victim's father, P Muni Gopal Reddy — a native of Sullurupet in Tirupathi district of Andhra Pradesh — lodged a complaint with the police.
According to the complaint, Gopal Reddy received a call at 10 pm on Saturday from his daughter-in-law, Mounika. The couple, who got married just over a year ago, argued over a misplaced gold bracelet.
"Despite our efforts to reconcile them, the situation escalated. Mounika had called my wife on Saturday evening complaining about the issue. We advised them not to quarrel. Later, around 10 pm, she called again, informing about the suicide," Gopal Reddy said.
"During the preliminary probe, we came to know that Kumara Swamy Reddy allegedly assaulted Mounika and she fell unconscious. We suspect that he got scared, thinking he had fatally injured her, and in a moment of fear, took the drastic step," Rajendranagar police said.
Based on a complaint, the police registered a case under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the BNSS. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family members on Saturday.
