Hyderabad: Three persons were arrested by the Punjagutta police on Friday for siphoning off Rs 11.94 lakh cash kept in HDFC ATM at Anand Nagar colony.

Out of the three accused, two are former employees of two different cash management companies hired by banks.

Punjagutta police said that Brink Security Pvt Ltd, in the last week of May, had lodged a complaint about the missing Rs 11.94 lakh. During the investigation, police picked up a former employee of Brink Security, M Sudheer Reddy, former employee of ISSSDB Security, A Yallareddy, and a cab driver, P Bhaskar.

Police said that Sudheer Reddy, who was earlier tasked with dispensation of cash in various ATMs, had quit his job two months ago. It was he who had the knowledge of passwords meant to open ATM machines. He hatched a plan, along with Yallareddy and Bhaskar, and stole the cash.

"In this case, the Brink authorities failed to change the password of the ATM after Sudheer Reddy quit the job. Whenever an employee quits, the company should make sure that the passwords are changed. They should also make sure that a proper background verification be done on the employees before they are recruited into the job of loading cash into the ATM," deputy commissioner of police (west) A Venkateshwar Rao said.
