200 crore ‘Second Cyber Towers’ to bedeck city’s skyline
Hyderabad: The city is set to add another landmark to its skyline, with plans underway for an iconic building, dubbed the ‘second cyber towers' in the Khaithlapur area. However, this one won't cater to IT firms; it's intended for civic administration. The proposed building will act as the headquarters for the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), the richest municipal body in the state. The project carries an estimated cost of around 200 crore. Alongside housing various CMC departments, the complex will also feature a state-of-the-art command and control centre for Cyberabad.Civic authorities say the design includes a G+10 structure, nearly twice the size of the current Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) headquarters at Lower Tank Bund. It will house a council hall with seating for 100 people, accommodating representatives from 76 municipal wards, ex-officio members and designated spaces for the mayor and deputy mayor. Offices for the commissioner, department heads and dedicated chambers are also part of the plan. The complex will additionally house a separate office for the HMWSSB's Cyberabad zone. At the moment, engineering and town planning teams are working through the final design details for what is expected to emerge as a major administrative and architectural centre in the area.
"We have identified two potential sites within the housing board layout for the project. One of these parcels is currently under a High Court stay, though it is considered ideal for construction. If the stay continues, we will proceed with a nearby alternative. The goal is to create an integrated facility — a single point for all civic services in Cyberabad, covering everything from municipal and water services to TGSPDCL and HYDRAA," said G Srijana, commissioner, CMC.For now, the CMC is operating out of the National Academy of Construction building in Hitech City on a temporary, rent-free basis while awaiting a permanent headquarters. Meanwhile, GHMC continues from its existing premises, and both CMC and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation are functioning out of interim locations. MMC is currently based in the old HMDA office in Tarnaka.
