2 intrusions, 2 thefts at RGIA in 10-day span
Hyderabad: Security incidents at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad have come under scrutiny as four incidents, including two cases of passengers entering without valid tickets and two thefts, were detected within a span of 10 days. Authorities filed cases and launched investigations into the incidents.
Unauthorised entry cases
In the first case, on February 6, 2025, at 1.07 am, a passenger, identified as Sayed Mohammed Alhasimi, entered the international passenger terminal building (PTB) through departure gate-9. He presented an e-ticket for Emirates Flight No. EK 525 from Hyderabad to Dubai, with a connecting flight to Houston. Upon verification at the check-in counter, Emirates Airlines staff found that he was not listed for the scheduled flight. Authorities determined that he entered the airport using a manipulated ticket.
The second case occurred on February 12, 2025, at 9.01 am, when another passenger, Raju Asani, entered through departure gate-11 using a fraudulent ticket for Air India Express Flight No. IX-995 from Hyderabad to Riyadh.
Thefts at airport premises
A case of theft was reported at GMR Arena on February 11, 2025, at 6 pm, when complainant Pawan Kumar Kanukallu filed a report regarding the disappearance of power and control cables. The incident allegedly took place on November 19, 2024, at 10.50 am, when an engineer, Pankaj, noticed missing cables at Beumer Stairs - 3, GMR Arena. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the lock was broken, possibly indicating unauthorised access.
In another case, reported on February 10, 2025, a restaurant employee, Steward was accused of stealing money from the cash counter at Bakery and Grapes Café, AERO Plaza. According to the complainant, Thirunavukkaraghu, the accused left his post under the pretext of taking a dinner break but failed to return. When attempts to contact him were unsuccessful, suspicions arose. A review of CCTV footage confirmed the theft.
