BELGAUM: Belgaum District Youth Congress Committee on Friday staged a protest to condemn the provocative statements of BJP leader Varun Gandhi against Mahatma Gandhi and Muslims.
The rally of party workers, led by district president Wasim Maskewale, burnt the effigy of Varun at Channamma Circle here. They later went to DC's office and submitted memorandum, demanding immediate arrest of Varun Gandhi and his disqualification from the electoral process under Section 153(A), 153(B) and Section (505) of IPC.
Varun is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Polibit constituency. Maskewale charged the saffron party with dividing the country on communal lines.
He also condemned the recent statements of Karnataka State Forest Industries Corporation (KSFIC) president Shankargouda Patil made against Congress MLA Firoz Sait. Accusing him of trying to disturb the communal harmony for political gains, Maskewale demanded immediate action against Patil.
R K Chalawadi, Sajid Desai and others participated in the protest.
