DHARWAD: Karnatak University vice-chancellor professor Srinivas Saidapur regretted that talented students were not opting for basic sciences, where there is much scope for innovation and research.
Speaking after felicitating the toppers in the recent SSLC examinations at the K E Board's High School here on Saturday, he said brilliant students were attracted towards courses like engineering and medicine, which will fetch them good money.

But the talent needs to be utilized for nation building, and this is not happening, he said.
Saidapur advised the students to develop an inquisitive nature to gain more knowledge. He also gave advised the teachers to be prepared to face a volley of questions from students and provide suitable answers.
Manasa Bhat, (98.24%) who stood fifth in the state and second to Dharwad district, Sudhanava Gad (96.80%) and Sourabh Deshpande (95.68%) among other achievers were felicitated on the occasion.
