Two women drown in lake; 4 critical

Kudligi (Vijayanagara): Two women drowned and four others are in critical condition after a group went swimming in the Gandabommanahalli lake in Kudligi taluk of Vijayanagara district.The deceased have been identified as Sarojamma Vaddar, 35. and Sujatha, 28, both residents of Gudekote village.According to police, the incident occurred when members of a single family returned after attending the Durugamma Devi fair in Gudekote. More than 10 members, including 4 children, went to the Gandabommanahalli lake after their meal and entered the water for swimming.Sarojamma and Sujatha drowned and subsequently died. Shravani, 20, Bhumika, 20, Anita, 26, and Sangeetha, 18, were rescued and admitted to the Kudligi govt hospital. After initial treatment, they were shifted to the Ballari BIMS Hospital for further medical care.A case has been registered at the Gudekote police station.
