Belagavi: Two passengers were killed on the spot, and the driver was seriously injured after a goods vehicle carrying poultry birds rammed a truck parked on the roadside in the early hours on Tuesday on the outskirts of the city on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway. The deceased were identified as Wasim, 28, and Mubaraq, 22, residents of Sorab taluk in Belagavi district. The driver, Basavaraj Hanchinamani, 37, from Mugaligoppa village in Shikaripur taluk, sustained serious injuries. According to police sources, it is suspected that the accident happened after the driver lost control of the vehicle. Hundreds of poultry birds also died in the accident. The injured driver was shifted to BIMS Hospital in Belagavi for treatment. Personnel from the Hirebagewadi police station visited the spot and carried out an inspection.
