Two electrocuted during stone mining at Savadatti

Belagavi: A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday during stone mining operations near the Naviluteertha reservoir in Savadatti taluk of the district, wherein two young labourers lost their lives.The deceased were identified as Ravikumar Singh, 18, and Subhash Singh, 18. The incident took place while mining work was under way using earthmovers in a quarry. The accident occurred when the earthmover's bucket came into contact with a live electric wire.In an attempt to save themselves after being electrocuted, the workers jumped from the JCB and fell into water nearby. However, as the water was also electrified, both of them died on the spot.Despite the seriousness of the incident, the failure of the mining owners to immediately inform the police has raised suspicion. A case was registered at the Savadatti police station, and further investigation is under way.
