SSLC preparatory exam results in Dharwad district raise concern

(Pic for representation only) Hubballi: Performance in the SSLC preparatory examination-1 remained low in the district this year, with 10,936 of 26,270 students failing, which has become a matter of concern for the district school education and literacy department, which aims to secure a top position in the state in the SSLC results.
A total of 6,769 male students and 4,167 female students who appeared for preliminary exam-1 failed, with a result of 58.3%. The responsibility of ensuring these students pass the annual examination now rests with the department. In the second examination, 19,013 students passed. The third examination is currently under way.Ashok Sajjan, a former govt teacher, said that the countdown has begun for the SSLC exam, which is one of the most important stages in the lives of students. "This time, the department has set a goal of seeing a significant improvement in the results. For this, the department officials initiated Mission Vidyakashi, including various activities such as adopting schools, from the day the activity began. However, it did not yield complete results. It is good that the department and headmasters are taking care of each student. But Dharwad district used to be in the top positions in the SSLC examination. We are expecting good results this time. Still, there is time to improve students' performance."According to SSLC nodal officials, as a result of the first examination and officials taking note of the SSLC preliminary exam-1 results, 19,013 students passed the preliminary exam-2. A total of 7,230 out of 26,270 students failed, making the preliminary exam-2 result 72.4%. The Mission-40 scheme was implemented in the district, through which a plan was formulated to improve results. The Mission-40 scheme monitors the students who scored less than 25 marks and ensures that they score at least 40 marks.DDPI Shanamukhaswamy Keladimath told TOI that the department is reviewing the answer sheets of students who failed in the preliminary exams, identifying which subjects and questions the students were unable to answer, and providing them with special guidance. "When compared to the preliminary exam-1, the result rate in the preliminary exam -2 has increased. Now the third preparatory exam is under way. We hope that students will get good results," he added.Nafisa Banu Dawalasaab, education officer at the DDPI office, Dharwad, said many students failed in mathematics and science. A meeting was held with the head teachers to prioritise improving the results. Six model question papers were specially prepared for the students who failed the preparatory exam, and the teachers of the respective schools are guiding them in practice work.
