Belagavi: Shrishail K Byakod, circle inspector of Mudalagi, has been selected to receive the President's Medal-2026, in recognition of his exemplary service and professional achievements.
Earlier, he has received the Chief Minister's Medal for excellent service in 2019 and the Union home minister's Dakshata Medal in 2025 for outstanding investigation, making his latest honour a significant addition to a distinguished career.
Shrishail Byakod is also the first Indian police officer to complete a full Ironman triathlon outside the country. He began his endurance sports journey in 2020, completing the Half Ironman at Kolhapur in Oct 2022. As the full Ironman event is not conducted in India, he participated in the international Ironman event in Kazakhstan in July 2023, completing the gruelling challenge—3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling, and 42 km running - in 14 hours.
Byakod has served as a police sub-inspector in Hubballi, Gokak Town, Kulagod, Harugeri, and Mudhol police stations. He was promoted to police inspector in 2019 and later served as inspector of the Dharwad internal security division and Ghataprabha police station. He is presently serving as the circle inspector of Mudalagi.
