Shots fired at advocate’s Belagavi home; probe on

Belagavi: Unidentified assailants opened fire at the residence of advocate Pooja Kakatakar on Mandoli Road between 1am and 2am on Sunday, triggering panic in the area. The shots were fired at the first floor of the house, where her daughter was reportedly studying at the time.A windowpane on the upper floor was shattered, with a bullet mark clearly visible. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Police rushed to the spot soon after and carried out a preliminary inspection.The damaged windowpane and the bullet have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination. A case has been registered at Belagavi Rural police station and further investigation is under way.Kakatakar, a practising advocate with nearly two decades of experience, has been provided police protection following the incident.While the motive behind the firing remains unclear, police suspect it could be linked to a high-profile case she is currently handling. Officials said more clarity is expected after the forensic report and further investigation.
