Schoolgirl killed, sister critical in car crash

Belagavi: In a tragic road accident, a speeding car ran over two school-going sisters near Mekhali village on the outskirts of Raibag taluk in Belagavi district, leaving one dead and the other critically injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening.The victims, identified as Jayashree Kotare, 10, and Bhagyashree Kotare, 15, students of a govt-aided school in Mekhali, were returning home after school when the incident occurred.According to preliminary reports, a car travelling from Nagaramunnoli towards Raibag town reportedly lost control and veered off the road, mowing down the sisters who were walking along the roadside.Jayashree Kotare succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Bhagyashree Kotare sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to the BIMS Hospital in Belagavi, where she is undergoing treatment and is said to be in critical condition.Belagavi additional superintendent of police RB Basaragi and Raibag circle police inspector visited the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident.
