Police arrest 8 in stabbing case
Haveri: The Haveri police have arrested eight persons on charges of involvement in a stabbing case on a retired bank manager that occurred near Devagiri Yallapur in Haveri. The arrested accused are: Malatesh Jamanal and Sagar Jamanal from Dharwad district; Prajwal Dotare, Raghavendra Doddamani, Ajay Salahalli and Shivanand Tagadinamani from Begalavi; Sunil KN and G Changalarayappa from Bengaluru. According to police, Harikrishna Anantha Rao, who hails from Udupi and staying in Haveri is the main accused in this case. However, he got an anticipatory bail. Retired bank manager Jayaram Kollapur was allegedly stabbed a over mutt’s property issue, on August 10 noon while he was riding on his bike along with his son towards Haveri. The gang chased Jayaram Kollapur and his son and escaped after stabbing Jayaram’s back. A case was registered in Haveri Rural police station.Protection of forests vital for survival: Judge Dharwad: Principal district and sessions judge KG Shanti said the cooperation of the citizens is vital in protecting forests and the environment. Speaking at a programme to mark the Forest Martyrs’ Day at the forest office here on Monday, she said the Western Ghats is an ecologically sensitive region, and has a rich biodiversity. The region is home for thousands of species of flora and fauna. Those destroying the forest and poaching wild animals should be booked, and stern legal action should be initiated against them, said the judge. She recalled the valour and sacrifice of the forest staff who lost their lives during attack by poachers, sandalwood and teakwood smugglers and those encroaching forest lands. Chief conservator of forests, Dharwad circle D Yatishkumar presided. Police commissioner Renuka Sukumar, deputy conservartor of forests Sonal Vrushni and others were present.AICCTU to stage protest in Dharwad todayHubballi: All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU) is organising a protest, demanding the government to abolish the contract labour system and to regularise contract employees working in HDMC and other sectors, on Tuesday in Dharwad. On Monday, AICCTU district president Chandrashekar Siragumppi said that labourers in the unorganised sector should be given weekly leave, equal pay for equal work, and Rs 10 lakh compensation should be provided if death occurs while working.“Protest will be held across the country on September 12 in this regard, hundred labourers will participate in the protest. The protest rally will start from Jubilee Circle, Dharwad to the DC o ffice,” he added.SDM college to host dental surgeons’ meetDharwad: SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital and SDM Craniofacial Unit, a constituent unit of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad, will host the 10th annual State Conference of Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons India-Karnataka Chapter from September 14 to 16 at SDM Dental College campus. The conference will offer a platform for young surgeons to learn, grow and make meaningful contributions to the profession and exchange knowledge, networking and collaborative discussions among maxillofacial surgeons across all ages. Around 350-400 delegates have registered for the conference, which will feature special talks delivered by distinguished speakers in various areas of expertise. It includes a series of pre-conference courses specially designed for residents and young maxillofacial surgeons.
