Muslims postpone Eid procession in Belagavi

Belagavi: In a show of religious harmony, the Muslim community in Belagavi has postponed its Eid Milad procession by two days. This year, Eid Milad and the last day of Ganesha festival, wherein the idol immersion procession is held at large scale, have been scheduled on September 28. It had turned into a huge challenge and headache for the police department.In Belagavi, Ganesha festival is celebrated on a very large scale when compared to any part of Karnataka. Around 400 different organisations install large-sized Ganesh idols at public places by putting the pandals. Already, most of the mandals have put the pandals, and are waiting for September 19, the arrival date of lord Ganesh. Every year, the dates of Eid Milad and Ganesh immersion procession were scheduled on different dates. However, this time, both procession dates were on the same date. Considering the issue seriously, Muslim community has taken steps to avoid the friction and reduce the burden on the police department. It has decided to hold the Eid Milad procession on October 1, instead of September 28. However, the Muslim community will perform the rituals and mass prayer on September 28 itself. Only the procession will be held on September 28. The decision of the Muslim community is being praised largely. Speaking to the TOI, Belagavi (North) MLA Asif Sait said: “Prominent Muslim community leaders and Anjuman E Islam Committee has taken the decision of postponing the Eid Milad procession for two days. The only intention behind our decision is maintaining religious harmony in the city. There are many castes and religions in the country and every community should follow the path of harmony.” MLA Sait is also the chairman of Anjuman E Islam Committee.

City Muslim groups yet to take call on Eid celebrations

Muslim groups in Nagpur are undecided on whether to celebrate Eid-e-Milad on September 28 or September 29. Other cities have chosen September 29 to avoid conflicting with Ganesh immersion on September 28. The decision depends on moon sighting. If the moon is seen on Saturday, September 27 will be Eid day, otherwise, it will be postponed to September 29. Muslim groups do not want to burden the administration and have asked for September 29 to be declared as Eid-e-Milad.

Belagavi market gears up for Ganesha fest business

The city market in Belagavi, Karnataka, is getting ready for the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival. Mantaps, decorative items, and electrical appliances are being displayed and sold in preparation for the 11-day festival. The market is attracting not only residents of Belagavi but also people from other parts of the district, as well as neighboring states like Goa and Maharashtra. Ready-made pavilions and mantaps are in high demand, particularly those made with thermocol. The police department is working to ensure law and order during the festival, which involves installing over 5,300 Ganesha idols across the district.

MLA Sait sets ball rolling for Belagavis first multi-level car parking project

Belagavi's first multi-level car parking facility is set to be constructed in Bapat Galli as part of the Smart City project. The project, which will be implemented on a public-private partnership basis, will have a G+5 storey building with parking space for 120 cars. The ground and first floors will house commercial shops, while the remaining floors will be used for parking. MLA Asif Sait stated that more such projects will be implemented in the city to address the increasing number of cars and the lack of proper parking facilities.
