Miscreants vandalise Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Karnataka's Haveri
HAVERI: Miscreants vandalised a statue of Mahatma Gandhi on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Haveri city, officials said on Monday. Haveri SP Yashoda Vantagodi and city police visited the spot and inspected the area. Later, the police took the 2-foot-tall defaced statue to the city police station.A case has been registered at Haveri city police station. Police are examining CCTV footage from across the city, as the camera at Gandhi Circle was reportedly not working.Locals expressed anger over the incident and demanded swift action. Further details are awaited.In a separate incident earlier, a statue of B R Ambedkar was vandalised at Ambedkar Park in Srinagar, Garhwal (Uttarakhand) in March, police said. The incident triggered public outrage, and several organisations filed a complaint at Srinagar Kotwali seeking strict action.Deputy superintendent of police Anuj Kumar said the Bhim Army had lodged a complaint, following which police reached the spot and cleaned the statue.(With agency inputs)
