Kalaburagi: A domestic dispute turned deadly in Madara (K) village of Afzalpur taluk, ending in a double tragedy on Tuesday.
According to police, Lakshmaputra allegedly attacked his wife, Anjali, 23, with a sickle inside their home over a quarrel, killing her on the spot. Shocked by the aftermath, he reportedly fled the house carrying his infant child and rushed to a well nearby.
In a chilling turn of events, Lakshmaputra jumped into the well along with the child. However, alert villagers who witnessed the act quickly sprang into action and managed to rescue the infant. While the child survived, Lakshmaputra drowned.
On receiving information, Revoor police, along with the SOCO (scene of crime officers) team, rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed inspection. Anjali's body was sent for post-mortem, while Lakshmaputra's body was later retrieved from the well.
Preliminary investigation suggests that persistent family disputes may have triggered the incident. A case has been registered at Revoor police station, and further investigation is under way.
