Hubballi: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Dharwad zone started a one-month cricket summer camp at the KSCA Hubballi ground in Hubballi for boys in the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19 categories, and for the first time for women in the Under 15 and Under 19 categories. A total of 125 players were selected among 1,076 players who participated in trials.
Speaking to reporters in Hubballi on Tuesday, convenor Veeranna Savadi said selection trials were conducted in Hubballi, Dharwad, Gadag, Belagavi and Karwar districts under the zone, and four matches were played against each other in all age groups. He said the selection was made after identifying the technical skills of the players and the training began.
Savadi said a month-long training camp was organised for 75 boys in the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19 age groups and 50 girls in the Under 15 and Under 19 age groups, and that a total of 125 players would receive training. He said it was special that rural players were selected.
Savadi said all the players would get free accommodation, food, physical examination, video analysis and more training from BCCI-level coaches. He said this was the first time such a training camp was organised.
KSCA Dharwad zone chairman Altaf Kittur, zonal committee member Vasant Murdeshwar and others were present.
