KRV bats for developing Kannada schools along border
Belagavi: Activists of the Chikodi district unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) protested at Basava Circle in Chikodi on Friday, demanding that basic facilities be provided and teachers be appointed to save Kannada schools on the border. The protesters, who raised slogans against the govt's alleged apathy and the silence of MLAs, demanded that basic facilities be provided to Kannada schools, and dilapidated schools be rebuilt.
Sanju Badiger, taluk president of KRV, said teachers should be dedicated only to education. "Separate staff should be appointed to ensure cleanliness of the school premises and for guarding school materials and property. There should be a complete change in the education system, and Kannada schools should be developed. The Chikodi BEO has failed to pay attention to schools — they should be replaced, and a new BEO should be appointed on a permanent basis immediately," he said. The schools in the border villages are in a dilapidated condition. The tiles are blown away, while the walls of many school buildings need whitewashing. Poor children are receiving education in fear. The superiors and MLAs do not have the money to pay attention to the schools. This is a sad thing, they said in the memorandum submitted to the govt.Subhash Sampagavi, assistant commissioner of Chikodi, rushed to the protest site and persuaded the protesters by immediately calling a meeting of officials regarding govt Kannada schools. He said they would try to rebuild and provide basic facilities to Kannada schools.DDPI Seetaram said they are always ready for saving and developing Kannada schools.Social worker Chandrakant Hukkeri said that every school should have CCTV cameras, barriers and gates. "The superiors and the legislators do not care for govt schools. Clean drinking water units have not been provided there. The reconstruction of all schools should be started, and basic facilities should be provided," he added.KRV activists Pratap Patil, Sunil Teradale, Sanju Kamble, Anil Navi, Khanappa Badakar, Rafiq Pathan, Amul Navi, Shivaji Khade, Basavaraj Badiger, Malu Karennavar, Satish Pujari, Sanju Latte, Kumar Patil, Rudrayya Hiremath, Dundappa Badigera, Satyappa Kamble, Mohan Patil, and Shubham Kadama were present.
