MELA: As many as 10,363 unemployed rural youths heaved a sigh of relief following selection to various jobs in a two-day job mela jointly arranged by the department of labour and employment, scores of industries and industrial training institutes (ITI) in Chitradurga. B N Bachegouda, minister for labour who distributed certificates maintained that so far as many as 1,34,104 persons had been given employment in different industries.
He fervently asked SSLC and ITI graduates to equip themselves with the knowledge of English which forms the basic requirement for jobs these days. The present employment exchanges would be renamed after human resource development centres (HRDC) which will ensure follow-up action till the selected ones receive placements, he announced.
He also announced the sanctioning of 1,000 more ITIs for imparting training to job seekers in different trades in the 114 backward taluks. S K Basavarajan MLA, Y A Narayanaswamy and G H Thippareddy, MLCs appreciated the earnest efforts of the government to provide employment as promised in the budget speech by the CM.

ZP CHIEF CLARIFIES: M Jayanna, president of Chitradurga ZP has clarified that people need not be mistaken on the visit of minister M P Renukacharya to his residence at Hiriyur on Sunday. As he has been the president of taluk JD(S) for over 14 years, he is one of the ticket-seekers for the next election from the JD(S), he maintained. S K Basavarajan, JD(S)district president and MLA too was present.
