Hubballi: The Hubballi-Dharwad Commissionerate held a parade of rowdies at the Old CAR Ground on Karwar Road on Thursday and issued a stern warning against committing anti-social acts.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, who paraded over 500 rowdy sheeters, warned them not to engage in illegal activities and instructed officials to take action against some rowdies under the Goonda Act.
During the parade, the Commissioner took a rowdy who tried to escape without attending the parade into custody on the spot and ordered him to be arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
Speaking to reporters, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said the rowdy sheeter parade was held to strengthen law & order in the city. He said the parade was organised by bringing together rowdy sheeters from various police stations in the twin cities, and such parades were conducted to know the background of rowdies and monitor their activities. He said strict measures were taken to maintain law and order in the city.
He said a total of 1,320 rowdy sheeters were registered by 2026, of which 816 rowdy sheets were closed, and informed that currently only 510 rowdy sheeters remained in the twin cities.
He said strict monitoring was kept on all rowdy sheeters and a list of those to be deported was also being prepared.
Deputy commissioner of police (law & order) Shruti SN, DCP (traffic and crime) Raveesh CR, and inspectors from all police stations were present.
