Heavy rains submerge villages

Following heavy down pour in the catchment area of Bhadra dam and heavy flow in Tungabhadra river, several villages of Harihar taluk were submerged under water and were de-linked from the road networks.

DAVANAGERE: Following heavy down pour in the catchment area of Bhadra dam and heavy flow in Tungabhadra river (TB), several villages of Harihar taluk were submerged under water and were de-linked from the road networks.
Every year this is a regular problem particularly between the Sarathi and Chikka Bidare village. Even Ditoour village is under the threat of floods as it is closely located to the Tungabhadra river, said ZP member Veeresh.

He visited all these villages on Thursday and promised them to get built a bridge between Sarathi and Chikka Bidare village after discussing the matter with the DC. It has been planned to shift the Ditooru village, having more than 150 houses, to the higher elevated regions to protect it from inundation by flood waters. But due to non availability of land, it could not be immediately taken care, he contented. Since the inflow to the TB river is declining there is no danger for any of these villages, according to Harihar tahasildar G.Nazma.
A team of elected members of Harihar TP, Gutturu GP chairman and its members and tahasildar visited these places and assured the villagers to provide quick relief at the earliest.
