Heatwave: Bidar district admin urges public to take precautions
Kalaburagi: The Bidar district administration has asked the public to take precautions against heatwave conditions till the end of May, stressing the need to protect children, elderly people and animals.The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to intensify in May. Bidar DC Shilpa Sharma told TOI that extreme heat could adversely affect the health of the public, workers, farmers and livestock, and urged citizens to follow safety measures.She advised people to avoid venturing outdoors between 11am and 4pm and to remain indoors or in shaded areas to prevent sunstroke. "Drink sufficient water and fluids such as juices and buttermilk to stay hydrated," she said.The administration has instructed children to avoid outdoor activities and directed schools and colleges to ensure a continuous drinking water supply and monitor students for early symptoms of heat stress. Special precautions have been advised for institutions with metal-roofed buildings.Farmers have been asked to use hats or umbrellas and cover their head, neck and face with a wet cloth while working in fields. Poultry farmers have been advised to ensure proper ventilation and water supply in sheds.People experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting, excessive sweating or a rise in body temperature have been advised to seek immediate medical attention. ORS or water should be administered without delay, officials said.
