Addressing media at Hampi Kannada University on Monday, VC said Prof G Ramakrishna(literature and thought), researcher Prof C Mahadevappa, and Prof HC Satyan (social service) will be awarded the honorary title of ‘Nadoja' by Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot during the festival.
The VC noted that the university was dedicated to research, with significant recognition for its PhD programmes. A total of 107 students from various departments, including 62 in language, 43 in social sciences, and 2 in fine arts, will receive PhD degrees from higher education minister MC Sudhakar. Cultural thinker Dr K Marulasiddappa will deliver the convocation address. As the founding vice-chancellor Chandrashekhar Kambar said, this is not a university that teaches knowledge, but one that creates it. "The university expanded its reach throughout the state, attracting many, especially from rural areas, including scheduled castes, tribes, minorities, and many first-generation graduates," he claimed.
He further said the PhD research on neglected tribal communities was notable, with CP Shivachandra from the same community being the first student to study the Mukri tribe, which has only 10,000 members in the state, residing between the forests and the sea in Uttara Kannada district. "This time, there was extensive research on women, the lives and struggles of Dalits, neglected primitive tribes, Lambanis, backward classes, farmers and agriculture, folk literature, folk artists, significant personalities, textbooks, Kannada heritage, religious movements, cultural history, senior citizens, and many other topics," he added.
Registrar Prof Virupakshi Pujarahalli, finance officer Prof A Sridhar, director of studies Prof Amaresh Yatagal, and others were present.
