Belagavi: The 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was celebrated in a grand manner across Belagavi district, including Belagavi city, on Tuesday. The event was organised in collaboration with the Belagavi District Administration, Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) and various Dalit organisations. District minister Satish Jarkiholi inaugurated the Jayanti celebrations at Ambedkar Garden. In the evening, a grand procession was held from Ambedkar Circle to Ambedkar Garden. Police made tight security arrangements across the city.
Inaugurating the event, public works minister Satish Jarkiholi said that the Constitution and democracy are the foundations of this country. The Constitution not only upholds the sovereignty of the country but also provides for equality and the upliftment of all castes and communities. The Constitution is the main motivation for minorities, backward people and Dalits to come into the mainstream of society.
The procession parade held in the evening was marked by the presence of still images and play cards introducing various govt schemes of various departments, boards proclaiming ideologies of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
MLA Asif Sait, deputy commissioner Mohammad Roshan, ZP CEO Rahul Shinde, Belagavi City police commissioner Bhushan Borase and officials from various departments participated.
