FIR filed against faculty member after student suicide in Ballari
Photo: Deceased student AravindBallari: Police registered an FIR against a professor at a private polytechnic college in Ballari in connection with the suicide of a diploma student earlier this week.A student of Sanjay Gandhi Polytechnic College in Ballari city, was found hanging at his house late on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Aravind, 19, a 4th-semester diploma student in the mechanical department and a resident of Guggarahatti. Based on a complaint filed by his parents, APMC police have registered a case against Ambarish, head of the mechanical department of the college.According to the FIR, a dispute took place in the college on March 10, after which Prof Ambarish called Arvind's parents and complained about him, allegedly warning that he would be expelled from the institution.Aravind's parents alleged in their complaint that harassment by the professor drove their son to take the extreme step. However, the professor denied the allegations.The incident triggered protests on the college campus on Wednesday. Students raised slogans against the management and damaged furniture and windowpanes in the principal's office, alleging that humiliation and strict discipline by faculty members led to the tragedy. Police intervened and brought the situation under control.However, according to police sources, no arrests have been made so far.
