Evaluation lapse pushes SSLC student into distress
Koppal: An alleged evaluation error in the SSLC examination results nearly led to a tragedy in Koppal taluk, after a student reportedly contemplated suicide on seeing unexpectedly low marks.Sanjana Madivalar, a resident of Katarki-Gudalur village, had secured good marks in all subjects, but her marks card showed only 12 marks in Kannada, triggering severe emotional distress. Believing she had written the exam well, Sanjana slipped into depression and allegedly considered ending her life. However, her parents intervened in time and prevented the attempt.Subsequently, the family obtained a photocopy of Sanjana's Kannada answer script, which revealed that she had actually scored 71 marks, indicating a serious evaluation or recording error.Reacting to the incident, Sanjana said she had scored 68 in English, 76 in Hindi, 67 in mathematics, 65 in science and 76 in social science, but her Kannada marks were wrongly recorded as 37, including just 12 internal marks. She said the error caused her immense mental anguish and embarrassment in front of family members and friends, despite her hard work and consistent performance. Her father, Manjunath Madivalar, demanded strict action against those responsible for the lapse. "Such negligence should not be repeated. This error almost cost my daughter her life," he said.
