Vijayapura: Governor Thaawar Chand
Gehlot stated that the university named after Akkamahadevi is a shining centre for women's education, empowerment, self-reliance, confidence and spiritual awareness.
Addressing the 17th convocation of Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women's University (KSAWU) here on Tuesday, Gehlot emphasised that true knowledge makes a person independent, fearless and self-reliant, a message Akkamahadevi conveyed through her life. Education is not only a path to acquiring knowledge but also a way to gain self-confidence and serve society, inspired by her ideals.
"A degree in education symbolises discipline, hard work and determination too. This era is filled with opportunities and challenges, requiring the integration of knowledge with moral values, social responsibility and sensitivity. The current era is one of science, technology and innovation. Through initiatives like Digital India, Startup India, Make in India and Vocal for Local, India is rapidly strengthening its presence on the global stage. Knowledge should be used not only for personal advancement but also for the welfare of society.
An educated woman empowers not only her own life but also the entire society," he said.
Prof Ujjwala Chakradev, vice-chancellor of SNDT Women's University, Mumbai, stated that degrees alone do not guarantee students' futures. "Along with degrees, skills, employability, lifelong learning and adaptability determine students' futures. As the country progresses with the vision of Developed India 2047, the role of educated and empowered women becomes crucial in nation-building. Educated women become economically self-reliant, and their leadership plays a pioneering role. As women progress, the nation can also progress," she opined.
She further said, "Institutions like SNDT Women's University in Mumbai and KSAWU in Vijayapura share a common goal of empowering women through education and shaping them as leaders and agents of change."
