Dharwad: Hundreds of residents of Navalur village off Dharwad protested at the space earmarked for a burial ground seeking its development on Tuesday. The protestors said the village with a population of 30,000 does not have a proper burial ground and blamed the local MLA and district administration for not taking steps to create facilities in the space earmarked for it. They said the government had sanctioned 12 acres for developing a burial ground in 2017 and had released Rs 50 lakh. However, no further development has taken place after officials failed to identify the border. “If the authorities fail to start the development works in3-4 days we will block roads and start an indefinite hunger strike,” said HDMC councillor Mayur More.
Don't waste milk on stone idols: Seer
Chitradurga/ Davanagere: While many devotees celebrate Nagara Panchami by pouring milk in termite mounds and on stone snake idols, Murugharajendra mutt in Chitradurga had been celebrating this festival in a different way for the last two decades by describing it as ‘Basava Panchami’, said pontiff Murugha Sharanaru. On Tuesday, Murugha Sharanaru along with Halaswamy Virakta mutt pontiff Sri Basava Jayachandra swamy from Channagiri, visited a government primary school at Burujanakoppa near Chitradurga and distributed milk and fruits to the children. In a similar way, pontiff Sri Basava prabhu swamy from Virakta mutt in Davanagere also distributed milk to primary school children along with his disciples.
Oral hygiene awareness event
Dharwad: Oral healthcare is most important to prevent further damage to teeth and the human body, said Dr Niranjankumar, vice-chancellor of SDM University, Dharwad. Speaking at an Oral Hygiene Day programme at SDM College of Dental Sciences here on Monday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Govind B Shanwalkar, the founder of Indian Society of Periodontology, he said the Department of Periodontics has raised awareness to prevent oral health problems. The students from Periodontics presented a small skit about oral hygiene. Dr SK Joshi, pro vice chancellor, Saketh Shetty, director, administration, Dr Balaram Naik, principal, Dr Lekha P and Dr Anand Tavargeri, vice principals and Dr Swathi Shetty were present.
