Kalaburagi: Members of the Jain community have urged and submitted a request letter to establish a Jain study centre in the name of Swastishri Charukeethi Bhattarak Mahaswamiji of Sravanabelagola in the Central University of Karnataka at Kadaganchi village near Kalaburagi.
Speaking to TOI, Prof Battu Satyanarayana, the chancellor of the Central University, assured that necessary action would be taken in this regard by bringing it to the attention of the Union Education minister.
Satyanarayana said he assured the members of the delegation of the Jain community who came on behalf of the Kalaburagi District Jain Youth Forum. He said that already for the last 2-3 years, in the direction of establishing a Jain study centre, they have been in constant contact and correspondence with the Union education minister.
In this direction, he explained to the delegation that the necessity of setting up a Jain Study Centre in the university has been established. In the Kalyana Karnataka region, including Kalaburagi, the ancient basadis of Jainism, including stone inscriptions and the capital of the Rashtrakutas, Manyakheta, are also located in the same province, so it is necessary to establish a study centre in the Central University of Karnataka.
Dharanendra Sangami, secretary of Kalaburagi District Jain Youth Forum, told that a request letter has already been submitted by Kalaburagi District Jain Youth Forum to Union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, former Union minister Bhagwant Khooba, and the chancellor of the Central University of Karnataka.
Forum president Suresh Thanga, treasurer Chetana Pandit, and many others requested the chancellor to set up a study bench soon.
