CM fails to make an impact in Haveri
Haveri: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai registered his fourth consecutive win from the Shiggoan assembly constituency in Haveri district by defeating his nearest rival by a margin of 36,008 votes, however, he failed to make an impact in the other five constituencies of the district.Congress candidates won in Haveri (SC), Byadagi, Ranebennur, Hirekerur and Hangal assembly segments. Even the aggresive and extensive campaigning by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah didn’t help the saffron party win the confidence of voters of the district. Agriculture minister BC Patil who joined BJP in 2019 following ‘Operation Lotus’ has lost by a magin of 16,020 votes to UB Banakar, who joined Congress party recently. In 2018 polls, BJP had won four seats in Haveri district, including Haveri, Hangal, Shiggaon-Savanur and Byadagi segments, and the other two seats—Hirekerur and Ranebennur— were won by Congress and an independent candidate, respectively. tnn
