Vijayapura: A water park, constructed at the cost of Rs 9.4 crore in 2024, is now being opened on March 1. It will become another value-added facility for visitors to Almatti.

D Basavaraj, chief engineer, Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited, Dam Zone, Almatti, told TOI that the water park has many water sports in 5 sections. "It involves 5 different ponds with inner tanks where water gets recycled and reflows. The park is constructed on 5 acres of land behind the helipad. District minister MB Patil, minister, Shivanand Patil, who is also the local MLA, will participate in the inauguration to be held on March 1," he added.
Construction of the water park started in 2022 and was completed in 2024. Sources said that a trial run of the park was conducted 4 to 5 times.
Tarasingh Doddamani, executive engineer, said that the inauguration was deferred as no bidder came forward in the tender floated 3 times. "Now an agency from Solapur has come forward to maintain the park at the annual cost of Rs 60 lakh," he added.
The park is equipped with a 150m-long slide with a height of 9m.
Another slide is 90m long with a height of 6m. A rain wave pond, lazy river, water pride, locker room, cafeteria, first aid centre, bathrooms, and other events and facilities are available for sports.
Manjunath Hiremath, former president, Almatti gram panchayat, said that there were fewer tourists in Almatti during the summer season. "With this water park, we are expecting more tourists on a par with the rainy and winter season," he added.
