HUBBALLI: After formally turning a sanyasi in the presence of hundreds of farmers and seers in Nargund on Monday,

Kalasa-Banduri

activist

Veeresh Sobaradmath

said he will not confine himself to religious rituals and vowed to continue fighting for the cause of ryots.

Sobaradmath Swami

, 37, said, "As I wanted to fight for farmers, I've remained a bachelor and have been involved in various activities and struggles to get justice for them. I've been fighting for farmers for the past two decades. I've organized several rallies, taken the lead in many struggles to bring change to farmers' lives. When there was no one to bother about the Kalasa-Banduri issue, I took the initiative and formed the samiti and staged a dharna at Nargund from July 21 last year. Farmers and various organizations in other districts started raising their voice and a result, an all-party delegation was taken to meet the Prime Minister."

Sobaradmath

said that family members opposed his decision to become a sanyasi, but he managed to convince them. "Some organizations too opposed it. I did not give heed to it. I'll stay at

Tirlapur

where I've built a small shed on 2.5 guntas. I'll perform puja once in the morning and then I'll start my journey of visiting farmers in villages to boost their confidence and prepare them to face challenges to overcome problems."

Sobaradmath said he will not seek financial help from politicians. "My guru warned me against take any financial help from politicians. Whatever farmers give me, I'll utilize it for my movement. My samiti members will decide where I'll stay and other activities. If there is any injustice to farmers, I'll be there to fight for them," he said.
