BALLARI: In a bid to ensure systematic collection of garbage across all 35 wards that fall under the ambit of

Ballari City Corporation

(BCC), the district's deputy commissioner

Ramprasad V Manohar

has chalked out a new initiative.Under the Clean Ballari, Healthy

Ballari

project, the DC has introduced a scheme wherein each household will avail a Re 1 deduction in their property tax for every 1kg of garbage they give to pourakarmikas. The programme is called `Give us 1kg of garbage, collect Re 1'.

“Sanitation personnel will distribute coupons at the doorstep once pourakarmikas have collected the trash. House owners will then have to submit these coupons at the revenue counter to avail deduction on their property tax,“ said Ramprasad.

Of the 160 tonnes of garbage generated in each ward in Ballari, pourakarmikas are collecting just 145, pointed out BCC commissioner

Manjunath K Nalavadi

.“But, with the implementation of the Clean Ballari, Healthy Ballari initiative', that quantity might increase. All the waste collected is dumped at the compost yard, close to

Veniveerapura

village,“ he added.

DC Ramprasad has appealed to NGOs, volunteers, the home guard, Lions Club, Rotary Club and the public to ensure the success of the initiative. The project will kick off on October 2, by labour minister Santosh S Lad at Ballari railway station.
