Guwahati: Two women in their forties from Bangalore have undertaken a cycling expedition from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat covering nearly 3,800 km to create awareness about how cycling can free the environment of pollution and make people fitter.
Kibithoo in picturesque Arunachal formed the starting point of the expedition on January 27. Meera Velankar and Tasneem Mohsin will be traversing seven states till they reach Koteshvar in Gujarat.

The duo reached Bongaigaon in west Assam on Friday and will enter West Bengal on Saturday.
Meera said, “It is a humble effort to promote cycling and also create awareness among people about the need to keep fit at this time of Covid-19 and protect the environment. People have been confined to their homes since the outbreak of the pandemic. Cycling helps build lung capacity.”
She went on to add, “I hope this expedition will encourage many to break their shells and experience the fun of outdoor activities.”
Tasneem said their daily target is to cover at least 150 km. “Challenges are plenty. You will have to face conditions like rain, high altitude, extreme cold, a sudden change in temperature, drinking water and food shortage. But it is thrilling,” she added.
They have already covered about 1,200 km in nine days. Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur and Nalbari in Assam were some of the spots they touched during their journey.
