Voters on Kamrup-M rolls drop by nearly 26,000, total count now stands at 10.49L
Guwahati: Kamrup (Metro)’s final electoral roll has been published with 10,49,644 voters, marking a net drop of 25,932 from the draft roll.
The draft electoral roll published on Dec 27 last year had 10,75,576 voters. After door-to-door verification by booth level officers (BLOs) and disposal of claims and objections, the final count fell by 2.47%.
“Subtracting the inclusion (27,410) from the deletion (53,342), we find a decrease of 25,932 voters in the final list from the draft roll, a 2.47% decrease,” district election officer Manash Jyoti Bora said.
Bora added that the primary reasons for deletions were death, permanent shifting and multiple entries. Official data shows 53,342 names were deleted during the Special Revision for reasons including death, permanent shifting, absent or multiple entries across polling stations. During the same period, 27,410 voters were added, including 18,126 new voters and 9,284 names included in their respective constituencies due to shifting of residence.
Constituency-wise, the voter count fell by 4,310 in CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s home constituency Jalukbari, 6,570 in Dispur, 4,150 in newly created Dimoria (SC), 4,569 in newly shaped and renamed New Guwahati, and 6,333 in newly shaped and renamed Guwahati Central, according to the data shared by the district election officer.

The constituency has 1,08,654 women and 97,653 men, along with seven third gender voters. The release said 2,754 men, 1,555 women and one third gender voter were deleted from the draft list.
Sarma, the second BJP chief minister of Assam, has been a five-time MLA from Jalukbari since 2001. He won the seat as a Congress candidate in 2001, defeating AGP’s Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, and retained it three times for the Congress before winning in 2016 and 2021 on a BJP ticket.
