Dibrugarh: State DGP Khagen Sarma said the Paresh Baruah-led, anti-talks faction of United Liberation Front of Assam (Ulfa) has been carrying out subversive activities in upper Assam districts with the support of militant groups like Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) and Kamtapur Liberation Organization (KLO).
Speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony at the police reserve here, the DGP on Monday said Ulfa has been trying to make its presence felt by carrying out subversive activities in some parts of the state.

“The cadre strength of Ulfa has decreased. Its support among people has eroded. It carried out some activities in upper Assam with the help of NSCN and KLO. We are, however, well-equipped to prevent such activities,” he said.
The top cop said Maoists are also trying to gain a foothold in some parts of upper Assam, mostly in tea-growing areas.
