GUWAHATI: Ulfa (I) on Saturday said it has executed two of its new recruits on charges of spying for the
Army and the Assam Police and for attempting to convince other cadres to surrender.
The news, which has sent shockwaves across the state, comes ahead of Union home minister
Amit Shah’s two-day visit to the state from Monday to mark the completion of the first year of the state goverment.
In a statement, the outfit said it has executed Dhanjit Das of Barpeta and Sanjib Sarma of Baihata Chariali on Saturday after a ‘court’ of the outfit ‘found them guilty’ and awarded them death sentence on May 4 and 5. Dhanjit and Sanjib are said to be in their early thirties and are from very poor families.
Ulfa (I) chief Paresh Baruah said the “two have been executed today (May 7) at 8 am under the laws laid down in the constitution of Ulfa(I).”
