Two people were killed on the spot after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a speeding mini-truck on the busy NH-37 at Chawalkhowa in Dibrugarh.

DIBRUGARH: Two people were killed on the spot after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a speeding mini-truck on the busy NH-37 at Chawalkhowa in Dibrugarh on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said that the truck rammed into the motorcycle from behind and dragged it for several metres along with the two riders. The deceased were identified as Gautam Baruah and Nasir Ali of Bokel. The driver of the truck fled soon after the mishap.Following the incident, angry residents blocked the busy national highway for over an hour resulting in a massive traffic jam. The furious crowd raised slogans against the police for their alleged failure to check reckless driving. They also damaged the mini-truck. Later, top police officials rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control, following which traffic movement on the highway was restored. The police have registered a case in this connection.
