Agartala: In a bold move to combat alleged electoral malpractices, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee has launched the third phase of its ‘Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod’ campaign. The initiative, which began on Tuesday, features a mass signature drive aimed at exposing and addressing purported voter roll manipulations by the ruling BJP.State Congress president Asish Kumar Saha spearheaded the campaign by signing the petition himself, urging party workers to mobilize efforts across every village and town. Congress has set an ambitious target of collecting five crore signatures nationwide, which will be submitted to the President and the Election Commission as a call for urgent electoral reforms.Saha accused BJP of tampering with voter rolls to skew election outcomes, alleging the inclusion of "illegitimate voters" in various states to benefit the party. He called for comprehensive reforms from the Election Commission, including the implementation of electronically readable voter lists, transparency in voter roll changes, strict enrollment deadlines, and severe penalties for voter intimidation. The signature campaign in Tripura will run until Oct 15, with a brief pause for the Durga Puja festivities, as Congress intensifies its grassroots engagement to demand accountability and transparency in the electoral process.
