Silchar: Three people from Assam’s Dholai area were killed on Saturday after a goods-laden truck plunged into a deep gorge, near Keifang, along NH-06 on the Aizawl–Champhai road in Mizoram, officials said on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Shahin Ahmed Laskar (28), Rahim Uddin Laskar (24), and Ruhul Amin Laskar (22), all residents of Rajnagar–Kulicherra GP under Dholai. Shahin was driving the vehicle, while Rahim was the co-driver.
According to family sources, two of the victims died on the spot, while the third succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital after being rescued from the accident site by members of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), who were among the first to reach the spot and assist in rescuing the victims. YMA volunteers also informed the victims’ families.
Preliminary reports suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and plunge into the gorge.
Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
