Temples in Cachar district vandalised, one arrested
The incident occurred on Monday night when the miscreants targeted Nayabill Lakshmi Temple, Elanpur’s cremation Kali temple, and a Shiva temple in Nayabill, stealing valuables in the process.
In the early hours of Tuesday, residents were stunned to discover the desecration of temples, intensifying unrest in the area.
Amid the turmoil, a suspect, identified as Swapan Munda (32), was apprehended near Nayabill Lakshmi temple. When questioned about his identity, Munda rambled incoherently, raising further suspicions, sources said. After a search, tridents, temple garlands, cloths, and other worship items were recovered from his possession.
The crowd, numbering in the hundreds, grew increasingly agitated, prompting the intervention of AP member Pradeep Singh and other local figures. Munda was tied up near the Lakshmi temple to prevent any untoward incident. Subsequently, OC Praveen Bey of Dwarbond police station, along with a police force, rushed to the spot to control the situation.
Police took Munda into its custody and initiated an investigation into the case. Gopibrata Goswami, head of Dharma Prasar of the South East Wing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Amlendu Das, district coordinator of Bajrang Dal, and others also rushed to the spot.
Burglar hides in temple overnight, arrested
A burglar was arrested for attempting to break the Thiruparankundram temple hundi in Madurai. The suspect, identified as K Manikandan, was found in possession of Rs 18,000. He entered the temple with the intention of stealing cash and jewelry, but was caught by the temple staff before he could escape.
Temple threat: Police file case against Pannun
Amritsar police lodge FIR against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, general counsel of US-based Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), for promoting enmity and inciting religious hatred. Pannun's video circulating on social media contains statements against India's unity and integrity, promoting hatred between religious groups. FIR registered under IPC and IT Act.
2 held with pistol & bullets, gold bars in Cachar district
Two men were arrested in Cachar district, Barak Valley, with a .22mm pistol, magazines, bullets, suspected gold bars, mobile handsets, and a screwdriver. This is the second seizure of weapons in Barak Valley in the last three days.
