Subansiri project Unit-4 becomes operational

Dibrugarh: India’s quest for energy self-reliance reached a landmark on Tuesday as the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project officially commenced the wet commissioning of its fourth unit.The process kicked off with the successful mechanical spinning of Unit-4 (250 MW), signalling a major step forward for the nation’s largest hydropower venture located along the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.Marking the occasion, Bhupender Gupta, chairman and managing director of NHPC said, “This achievement is a testament to NHPC’s engineering excellence and a powerful step toward India’s clean, green, and self-reliant energy vision. It reflects the collective hard work of our project partners, stakeholders, and the relentless spirit of the Subansiri team.”The Subansiri Lower Project is an 8x250 MW run-of-the-river scheme that has overcome numerous geographical and logistical hurdles over the years. With Unit-4 now in the commissioning phase, NHPC plans to follow a phased approach to bring the remaining units online.Once fully operational, the 2,000 MW project will be the largest hydroelectric facility in India, generating approximately 7,421 million units of electricity annually.
