Student body’s Dibrugarh unit slams CM for inability to control prices of essentials
Dibrugarh: All Assam Students' Union (Aasu) took out a protest rally in Dibrugarh town on Wednesday as a part of the statewide protest against soaring prices and inflation that have burdened the common man.
Hundreds of protestors, led by Aasu Dibrugarh district president in-charge Rupjyoti Borthakur and general secretary in-charge Sanjib Bora, marched through the town's main thoroughfares before converging at the gate of the district commissioner's office.
The protesters targeted the BJP-led govt as they raised slogans against CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and food, civil supplies and consumer affairs minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass for their failure to implement effective price control measures.
"The common people are struggling to make ends meet due to the exorbitant prices of necessities. We demand immediate intervention from govt to curb the rising prices of fuel, cooking gas, medicines, vegetables and other essential commodities. Both Central and state govt have completely failed in their responsibility to control inflation," Rupjyoti Borthakur said.
Echoing the sentiment, AASU Dibrugarh district general secretary in-charge Sanjib Bora said, "Every day, we wake up to higher prices. It's a struggle to make ends meet. The prices of goods are now beyond the reach of common people. Govt must take urgent steps to make these essentials affordable for all citizens."
After the two-hour long demonstration, the AASU leaders submitted a memorandum to DC Bikram Kairi, outlining their demands for immediate action to address the exorbitant rise in prices.
